Department Definition:
The Curriculum Development Department leads the development, review, and continuous enhancement of curriculum areas across all educational stages. Through its specialized divisions, the Department oversees specific academic and educational domains within an integrated framework of coordination and collaboration, ensuring quality, coherence, and effectiveness in the design and development of national curricula. The Department is responsible for the ongoing review and enhancement of educational content to ensure alignment with international educational trends and best practices, while supporting students’ future readiness and preserving the national identity and core values of the United Arab Emirates. It also contributes to the development of curriculum frameworks, educational standards, learning resources, and assessment tools that support high-quality learning outcomes, respond to students’ diverse needs, and reflect their developmental characteristics across different age groups. The diversity of expertise within the Department strengthens the comprehensiveness and coherence of the national curriculum. It enables the effective use of specialized academic and educational knowledge and supports the contextualization of international best practices in ways that are appropriate for each subject area and educational stage. This integrated approach strengthens alignment across curriculum components and contributes to a holistic learning experience that prepares students to compete globally and contribute to the realization of the United Arab Emirates’ vision and future aspirations.
Main Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Strategic Curriculum Leadership
- Lead the development, review, and continuous enhancement of national curriculum policies, frameworks, standards, and strategic initiatives.
- Provide expert advice and recommendations to senior leadership on curriculum, assessment, and educational policy matters.
- Contribute to the development of long-term curriculum strategies that support national priorities and future educational needs.
- Ensure alignment between curriculum, assessment, pedagogy, educational policy, and workforce requirements.
Research, Evidence and Foresight
- Lead and oversee research, studies, and policy analyses related to curriculum and assessment.
- Monitor international educational developments, emerging trends, and innovative practices to inform strategic decision-making.
- Identify opportunities for improvement through research, environmental scanning, and evidence-based evaluation.
- Develop recommendations that support curriculum innovation and system-wide improvement.
National and International Assessment Analysis
- Lead the analysis and interpretation of national and international assessment data, including TIMSS, PISA, PIRLS, and other relevant measures.
- Identify trends, strengths, gaps, and improvement priorities across curriculum areas and educational stages.
- Develop strategic recommendations and action plans based on assessment findings.
- Support the use of assessment evidence to strengthen curriculum quality and learner outcomes.
Curriculum Quality, Coherence and Alignment
- Oversee curriculum coherence and progression across educational stages, learning areas, and curriculum components.
- Ensure horizontal and vertical alignment between standards, learning outcomes, assessments, and educational resources.
- Lead curriculum evaluation, review, piloting, and validation processes.
- Monitor curriculum implementation findings and recommend system-level improvements.
Educational Resources and Publishing Oversight
- Provide strategic oversight for the development, review, adaptation, and approval of textbooks, teacher guides, learning resources, and supporting materials.
- Ensure educational resources align with curriculum requirements, learner needs, and quality standards.
- Guide the effective use of visual design, digital resources, and educational technologies within curriculum products.
- Support publishing, procurement, and resource development initiatives related to curriculum implementation.
Cross-Sector Coordination and Stakeholder Engagement
- Lead collaboration with assessment, training, school operations, quality assurance, and other relevant sectors to support integrated curriculum implementation.
- Coordinate with educational authorities, higher education institutions, subject matter experts, publishers, consultants, and strategic partners.
- Represent the ministry in committees, working groups, consultations, and national initiatives.
- Facilitate stakeholder engagement processes and incorporate feedback into curriculum development and review activities.
Capacity Building and Technical Leadership
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to section heads, curriculum specialists, project teams, and other stakeholders.
- Contribute to the development of professional learning programs, curriculum implementation support, and technical guidance materials.
- Support the development of specialist expertise and curriculum leadership capacity across the sector.
Monitoring, Evaluation and Governance
- Monitor the effectiveness of curriculum initiatives through data analysis, field feedback, implementation reviews, and program evaluations.
- Prepare strategic reports, policy papers, briefing notes, and recommendations for senior leadership.
- Support governance, quality assurance, and continuous improvement processes across curriculum programs and initiatives.
